Wahoo! My first blog post and my first session! Naturally, my first post and session, would be that of my dear friends Kristen, Alwin and their gorgeous kids.
Kristen is from Nathalia, Australia and Alwin is from De Lier, The Netherlands. They met while they were working for a major cruise line sixteen years ago. Kristen worked in the spa and Alwin was a cadet officer completing his apprenticeship before heading back to school in The Netherlands. They explored the world, fell in love and Kristen took a chance and joined Alwin in The Netherlands while he completed school. They returned to cruise ships, following Alwin's graduation, stayed for a few more years, fell more in love, got engaged, explored a bit more of the world and made the choice to transition to what us ship folks refer to as land life. Side story: Kristen and I were connected via a mutual friend through Facebook, I was still working on cruise ships, and we began chatting. After about five minutes she asked me who my husband was. Well, it turns out Joris went to school with Alwin! They were all really good friends but, unfortunately, lost touch when Alwin and Kristen moved to Australia. They have reconnected since haha!
During their time in Sydney they got married and had two gorgeous children, a daughter and son. After plenty of pro and con lists, tears and conversations they decided to move back to The Netherlands. It's never an easy decision, especially when you have kids, but it was what their hearts were telling them and what was best for their family as a whole. So they packed up, moved to Maassluis, The Netherlands and setup their home. Fast forward five years, and they are, more then, settled into life in The Netherlands!
Kristen and Alwin were hoping to utilize the beautiful backdrops of Maassluis for their photos. I was, most definitely, up for that! Maassluis is stunning! If you haven't visited there I highly recommend that you do. Historical, beautiful, full of history and the textures are a photographers dream! Kristen and Alwin, I had such a wonderful time with you and your family. Your kids are a genuine reflection of you both. Thank you for choosing me as your photographer. I hope you love your images as much as I do! Enjoy!
